Interaction on Implementation Status of CRPD Recommendation in Nepal
On the occasion of the 28th International Day of Persons with Disabilities, National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFD-N) organized ‘Interaction program on the implementation status made by Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in the context of Nepal, held on 5th December, 2019 at Kathmandu with support of MyRight Nepal. In this program there were representatives from various governmental bodies, Disabled Peoples’ Organizations (DPOs), persons with disabilities, journalists CSOs and other concern stakeholders.
On this occasion, former President of NFDN Dr. Birendra Raj Pokharel emphasized that all issues related to disability should be taken up jointly and training should be conducted for the capacity development of both concern stakeholders and persons with disabilities at local level to develop common understanding among them. Similarly, Imediate Past President, Mr. Shudarson Subedi added that process should be delayed from all levels. In the open floor discussion, Mr. Pashupati Mahat, head of the Disability Right promotion department of Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen (MoWCSC) asserted that ministry is working for the implementation of CRPD from federal to local level and ministry needs support and coordination from all concern stakeholders. He added that ministry is planning to produce National Disability Report that supports to address disability issues for Disability Rights Act Regulation for persons with disabilities and adopting and revising new plans and policies from federal to the local level.
In this program, there was active participation from Ministries of Education, Science and Technology, Land Reform and Management, Urban Development and Youth and Sports whereas there was also meaningful participation from National Human Right Commission, Central Bureau of Statistics, Education, Human Resource and Development Center and different print medias.
On the closing session, NFDN president Mr. Mitralal Sharma shared gratitude from organization for all participants for their encouraging participation and worthy discussion. He stated that NFDN is always ready to support the Government of Nepal to implement all laws and policies and similarly coordinate and corporate with DPOs and concerned stakeholders as needed.
