With the second phase’s election of 7th December 2017 the election of national House of Representatives and Province Parliament of all seven provinces is now completed. National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal has carried out an independent observation of both phase’s elections from the perspective of the participation and access of persons with disabilities in the election process and voting. In this observation, operated in the cooperation of Election Commission Nepal and partnership with International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), one hundred twenty two polling centers have been observed from disability perspective. Considering the mountain, hill and Terai geographical location, this observation was implemented in seven districts by taking one from each province namely Sankhuwasava – Province 1, Saptari – Province 2, Sindhuli – Province 3, Parbat – Province 4, Bardiya – Province 5, Jumla – Province 6, and Kailali – Province 7. NFDN mobilized 122 trained observers in the selected polling locations and they were the persons with disabilities or parents of intellectual disabilities. As per the primary information the election in the observed polling locations were peaceful.
NFD-N has applied internationally tested and standard questionnaires as observation tools during the observation which has already been used by different countries to monitor the election from disability perspective.
After analyzing the information and facts of the observation, NFDN will produce a comprehensive report, submit to the Election Commission Nepal and then publish in the official website of NFD-N at www.nfdn.org.np .
