On 29 and 30 June 2017, National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFDN) organized two days coaching program on Employment and Self Employment for youths with disability in Kathmandu in partnership with Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare.
The main objective of the program was to empower the participants and share information about employment and self employment process. About 45 participants with different kinds of disability took advantage of the program. Resource Persons presented their ideas on various topics such as Job Preparations, interview techniques, preparing resume and cover letter, finding job, legal procedures to start own business, differences in government jobs and private sector jobs and many more. Similarly, the participants also expressed their interest about interested jobs and challenges and success they faced while applying for the job. Similarly the participants also consisted of the representatives of DPOs who were working on employment sector for youths with disabilities.
In the program, Mr. Sagar Prasai, Country Coordinator of NFDN welcomed the participants and made a presentation on works of NFDN in employment sector in Nepal. He also shared examples of national and international practices. Ms. Pratistha Koirala from Nepal Administrative College shared ideas on government job and private sector jobs. Advocate Prabin Subedi shared ideas on legal procedures to establish a new business. Similarly, Mr. Bishal Dahal, Job Placement Coordinator of NFDN shared knowledge on job preparation, Resume building, skills required for the job and employers expectation with interview preparation techniques. Mr. Bijay Baral, popular theatre artist performed a role play among participants to help them realize perspective of job seekers and employer.
Secretary of NFDN Mr. Om Prakash Banjade motivated the participants with his speech and encouraged them to apply for jobs with right procedure. He focused on skills rather than charity based employment.
The program concluded with closing remarks and certificate distribution. The participants expressed thanks and demanded such programs on employment to be organized frequently in coming days.
