NFDN accelerates the civil society report writing process on UNCRPD


National Federation of the Disabled Nepal organized one day consultation workshop with the disability related national level stakeholders to finalize the tools, methodology and process to write civil society report on UNCRPD on September 12, 2016.

The consultation meeting, conducted in the presence of the key representative from Human Rights Treaty Monitoring Coordination Committee (HRTMCC), was facilitated by Mr. Shudarson Subedi, the national president of NFDN.  Mr. Kapil Aryal, the lawyer, presented the drafted tools, methodology, proposed activities to be carried out and process to be followed for preparing civil society report on UNCRPD and the presentation was followed by the open Discussion. Mr. Aryal is also known as an experienced personality in civil society report writing.

The consultation meeting concluded the regional level consultations with DPOs and stakeholders; case studies collection on CRPD implementation; review and analysis of existing policies and programs of government; review of secondary level information such as study, survey, research reports; analysis of budget; media monitoring; focus group discussion; consultations meetings on the draft report and final submission to CRPD committee as the key activities to be carried out.  

The meeting also formed 10 groups of disability rights activists with the responsibilities to feed information to the write-up team related to the different article of UNCRPD as per their knowledge and experiences. Financially, the consultation meeting was supported by DPOD Denmark.

As the key national umbrella organization of persons with disabilities, NFDN is leading the civil society report writing process on UNCRPD (which is also known as shadow report or alternative report) in Nepal in the close coordination with HRTMCC.
