Disability Rights Activists Submits Memorandum to the UN secretary General


A delegation of 14 disability rights activists of Nepal in the leadership of Mr. Shudarson Subedi, the president of National Federation of the Disabled Nepal – NFDN submitted memorandum to His Excellency, Ban Ki Moon, the general secretary of United Nation via the United Nation's Residential Coordinator (UNRC) of  Nepal  on 3rd March 2014 in the office of UNRC at Kathmandu. The submission of memorandum is a part of global disability rights campaign being carried out by Disabled Peoples' International (DPI) concerning to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by UN. The DPI Nepal has been carrying out this global campaign as the response when the disability issues are omitted in the Goal 1: End Poverty in all its forms everywhere and Goal 3: Ensure Healthy Lives and Promote Well-beings for all at all age among the SDG. Submitting the memorandum to UN Secretary General through UNRC, NFDN has expressed its strong solidarity and support to the global campaign.
 
Accepting the memorandum, UNRC expresses his commitment to send it to General Secretary as soon as possible. He further said that, he is also very serious about disability rights promotion in Nepal and will ready to contribute as far as possible on behalf of UNRC.
  
Similarly the same delegation on the same date went to the office of Prime-Minister and registered another memorandum on the same issues requesting the Prime-Minister to raise this issue in the UN on behalf of persons with disabilities of Nepal.
