Peer to Peer Counselling on Civil Service Examination


National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFDN) organized an event "Peer to peer counseling" for persons with disabilities under the program of DAP, Supported by Australian embassy. The event was targeted to those persons with disabilities who were really in frustrating & confusing situation to the civil services/government jobs opportunities due to their own disability & disabling barriers on the way.

30 persons with different kinds of disabilities participated in the event. Most of the participants were continuously attempting some examinations with awkwardness & frustrating mentality, whereas some of them were in any way hesitating to attend for the same. Ms. Nira Adhikari, section officer (person with visually impairment) from Department of Women and Children (DoWC) & Ms. Shusila Dhakal, non-gazette officer (person with physical disability) from tax office Lalitpur led the panel discussion for whole event. The event was moderated by Mr. Bimal Paudel, a program coordinator of NFDN.
 
Both the panelists initially shared their own experiences how they did struggles to have triumph over different sorts of obstacles/barriers to be in the present situation. They told that they had not obtained the present title easily. Rather, they continued their attempts to step forward for breaking disabling as well as other barriers on their own. Furthermore, they added that their tireless efforts could have helped not only to change the attitude of persons without disabilities towards PWDs, but also have contributed in the disability friendly system & mechanism development to be accomplished by governmental agencies.
 
Secondly, some of the representative voices were taken from different groups of participants: persons attending the examination more than twice times, persons not attending such examinations due to awkwardness & persons urging to attend but having no any ideas about process & so on. At that current, the panelists immediately addressed all the issues/queries one by one. Moreover, they also supply general procedures to fill the exam form & attend the different examinations.

Issues & questions raised by participants were not only addressed during the event, but also participants were provided some tips for preparation of different examinations to government job opportunities. The participants expressed their happiness to be participated in such kind of event & urged to continuously organize such kinds of events for positive encouragement.
 
Finally, Mr. Manis Parsai, Admin manager of NFDN, disillusioned that so many issues were still remained to be done in our line ministries & other governmental agencies. He further committed that NFDN would take more steps & endeavors to address the current issues in forth coming days as well.
