"Meet the Employers" event organized in Kathmandu

National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal (NFDN), in partnership with Handicap International and My Rights, organized a market place type event called "Meet the Employers" on Dec 31, 2014. The program was organized at Royal Events, Tinkune from 11 AM to 3 PM.
 
There were 8 different employers participated in the program with their own stall. The participating employers were: Mega Bank Nepal, WaterAid Nepal, Himal Media, US Embassy Kathmandu, Happy Kids Foundation, Engage, Cloud Factory and Everest Academic Solutions. These employers represented their sector and gave information to attending participants on what skills and qualification are needed to get a job in the sector they represents.

They were people with different kind of disability including, physical disability, blind and low vision, deaf and hard of hearing etc. They went to the employer's stall of their interest and got feedbacks on their CVs, interview skills and over all goals of getting job. The participants spent at least an hour visiting different employer's stall.
 
After the market place event, an informal closing session was organized. In that session, Mr. Manoj Gohiwar of HI did a presentation on disability and employment. He presented various examples and data from the project HI has recently implemented in various part of Nepal. Follow that presentation few of the employers shared their experience of their participation on the event. Mr. Shrijan Kayastha of HR Manager of WaterAid Nepal shared that he was very impressed with the qualification of the people with disability participated in the event. However, he suggested that these people will need some focused training on presenting their qualifications and skills and committed that he can provide his time on mentoring people with disability if necessary.
 
At the end of program, Ms. Tika Dahal, General Secretary of NFDN presented certificate of appreciation to all the participating employers. She then thanked all of them for being a part of the program and committing towards the employment of persons with disability in Nepal. She also said that these kinds of events are very necessary to fill the gap between the employers and job seekers with disability in Nepal.
 
The program ended with the commitment of following up the employers and people with disability to make both parties more ready for actually hiring people with disabilities.
